These things we often say may just be words, but there are many more acts that define our claims of permanence in a relationship. And each of these occupies a certain mind space in our increasingly over-burdened mind.
An article I read about hymen reconstruction got me thinking about how far this "circle of hypocrisy" goes. We have come to an age when permanence can be faked quite easily with the lack of a conscience and a month's salary. I can but imagine the number of people that will undergo that surgery to get back what is still largely considered a virtue in today's world.
If you dwell on ethics and morality, this is where your questions start piling up. Can Angelina Jolie get the thought of her ex-husband out of herself by removing that inscription of her love on her arm? Can any lady get a reconstruction done and prove her "innocence" to a future loved one? Or in some cases, does it act as an insurance against those relationships that turn into mistakes, or were mistakes to start off with!
I have often heard people debate the case of virginity being over-rated and over-hyped. "Why do people expect their partners to be virgins?", people say. Why not, I say. My take on it is as follows: Virginity is and should always be considered a virtue. It's just that it is quite nonexistent in this era and people on the other side of the fence argue more vehemently that it isn't a big deal because they have more to lose.
And the bigger question of hypocrisy still lurks large. Maybe this is the time to redefine the V word, instead of permanence. What about everything in a person's mind? What procedure exists to get that removed? Obviously, we are still a few years from achieving that. But I'm sure that is where we are headed. We have seen it happening in movies, and it is just a matter of time before some bursts of electromagnetic impulses try to erase the part of our memory that nurtures the thought of a failed relationship.
But till then, one just has to deal with things in the way that we always have. You can lie and fake all you want, and get any number of surgeries done. But it is your mind that is tainted, and that, unfortunately is how permanence is defined.
It's one of those stains that one can't get rid of how ever much one tries. There are lots more of these. In your mind, such stains shall never be gone.
You try to get rid of them. Try the common antidotes to this poison within you. Alcohol, cigarettes and dope kill brain cells, but not the ones that matter. Not the ones you want them to! The stain shall remain forever. Or so it seems...

Till then, you can try all you want not to think of all those previous encounters that you have been thru in your life. And if you have a frail conscience, consider yourself lucky. For, there are some things nothing can erase. Like all the "first" people. And those first times with all those people, over again. And those "special" moments that you thought would last forever. Well, think again... Nothing lasts forever. So enjoy it while it lasts, and go back to the surgeon when you're done!
Message to Speedbird: There are some things she can’t and won’t ever forget, for reasons that are too overwhelming. However much you try, she's going to have it on her mind every single moment of her life. It's just in her ability to lie that will save her, for you both know all too well that you're already at the losing end of the battle and the back of her line.
